Family gatherings are so much fun!  Our extended family gets together for Thanksgiving and, as we love food, have a wonderful time.

We do a group photo of everyone on the front porch most years, but it’s the storytelling photos of waiting and preparing and the excitement of eating that are so cute.

We love looking back on the day as it happened.

Sometimes, engagement photos can be static. Sometimes they end up crazy awkward.  Sometimes they are a blast and everyone has a good time making them!
We aim for a good mix of the “expected” looking at the camera kind of photos (where the couple looks amazing) along with some fun photos (with good laughs, being silly together, hanging out and enjoying each other).  It’s a session where we balance lifestyle shots with some traditional images.
It’s tricky business: two young people in love + all the people they need to send a photo to in the back of their mind + how those folks would react to a certain photo + the guy’s last experience with a photographer (his grandmother or his high school senior photographer or his fiance) + expectations from all over the planet = engagement photography session!
Our secret recipe is: have enough time to get comfortable + have something fun to do + have mad skilz with the camera + make fun of ourselves and have a good time = studio detro engagement photography session!
We have fun engagement sessions on Facebook - check a few of them out!

Weddings!  Months (if not years) of planning, a long weekend with family and friends, a million details and connections.  The photographer has their work cut out for them because the bride has slaved to prepare for the wedding day.
As the bride, take time to talk with your wedding photographer about the most important parts of your wedding day.
A record of the faces of family and friends?
A magazine ready spread of wedding details?
A photographer who stops at nothing to “get the image” or one that stays out of the way and watches the party unfold?
What are the 10 final images that would summarize your wedding day?
Thinking about what wedding planning items were most important to you and your family will direct your communication so much better than a tear-sheet of images from someone else’s wedding.  And then you’re free to enjoy your day!

Enjoyable Engagement Sessions

Guys are good sports.  Seriously!  All the hype leading up to the wedding.  And we’ve found many to be super happy to cooperate during the engagement photography session.

They come in with a relaxed attitude and after interacting with us for a few minutes, often we get comfortable and silly together.  Not in an awkward embarrassed about it later kind of way, but a “hey, we should hang out again” kind of way.

One contributing factor is that we ask our couples for ideas of things they like to do together and places that they enjoy spending time exploring.  It kicks of the photography time on the exact right note.

The photographs turn out great.  And it’s not a hassle, it’s really fun!

Baby yawn.  This little guy is barely a day old.  He’s hanging out on his mom’s hospital bed.  And he’s being adorable.  What else could he be?!
I just thumbed through a cute newborn book at Barnes and Noble.  It felt like the new version of Anne Geddes.  Babies all mushed into a bundle and photographed sound asleep are cute, but I don’t see the need to dress them up or add super fanciful props.  It is adorable, but not very natural.
When we have our baby (girl!) I imagine we’re going to do a lot of photographing from day one.  I’m looking forward to a big wall portrait of her being a sweet innocent little baby.  Sans bunny ears.
If you are looking for a Houston area photographer that does infant dress up sessions, contact me and I’d be glad to refer some fabulous photographers to you.  Hopefully, they’ll be sending us the clients that want lifestyle photography who inquire with them!

Band photos.

Individuals or groups hanging out and working on an activity. The photographs are so interesting!  Even when the venue or the location is pretty plain, the image conveys a story so much more meaningful than a simple group shot.

Even if you don’t play a note, think about the benefit of doing something during a portrait session.  Water ski, cook a meal, go for a walk, ride horses, shop or dine at a fun storefront, visit a downtown area (city or township), fly a kite, or hit the batting cages. Have fun!

Family photographs!  Wiggly and giggly.
We have preschoolers (or high schoolers) with 3 to 5 minute attention spans mixed in with parents who have done a lot of work preparing for this photography session.
Why make this time together stressful?  Play to the strengths of your kiddos by playing together and enjoying the spontaneous things that happen.
The result?  A sweet session recording family interaction, excited children who are contributing to photograph ideas and a bunch of one of a kind images detailing your beautiful family.

Melt.
Photograph the love of your life.
Some pet owners wait until the last few weeks of their pets’ lives to book a photo session - which is a great way to remember the relationship and treasure that animal even longer.
Why not photo them young, too?!  You’ll love the image even more as you grow older together.

Photobooths are an event in themselves.  Share the photos online and comment away!
Many of the images wedding guests make at the booth look great in the couple’s wedding album. Imagine friends and family hamming it up on a full page spread.  Way cuter than table photos of half eaten food and uncomfortable people!
